SoapCity Download Web Site
SoapCity Download Web Site
Client: Sony Pictures
SoapCity Download was a service of SoapCity.com that offered daily downloads of NBC and CBS network soap operas. This was the first site to offer television shows the same day they were broadcast on network television.
Initially, this was a separate site from SoapCity.com, but as the back-end technology evolved we were able to integrate it completely into the SoapCity site.
The initial architecture of this site was challenging. We lacked flexibility on the checkout path and needed to accomodate monthly subscribers as well as pay-per-episode customers.
After our initial functionality analysis and numerous wireframes and mockups of various site flows we finally were able to test with real users. Surprisingly, most of the items we thought would be difficult for the average user and would need additional explanation turned out to be non-issues. The general public is much more tech-savvy than many developers would care to admit. Although the task of downloading full-length episodes was unfamiliar to them, most figured out the service quickly and enjoyed the concept.
The addition of the SoapCity Download brand and different URL complicated marketing efforts, but allowed us to test many different messages.
